How I handle your email

This notice covers the email updates from freddiechambers.ai. The controller is Freddie Chambers (contact: the email on my GitHub profile, or reply to any email I send).

What I collect and why. Your email address, only so I can send you occasional updates about new writing and projects. The lawful basis is your consent - the box you tick when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any email; that takes effect immediately.

Where it lives. Your address is stored in this site's own database (Cloudflare D1), encrypted at rest. Two processors handle it on my behalf: Cloudflare runs the database and the site, and Resend, a US email service, sends the emails; the transfer to Resend in the US is covered by its data processing agreement and UK-appropriate safeguards. (The site also keeps one short-lived anti-abuse record: a scrambled, one-way code derived from your connection's IP address, not the address itself, counting signup attempts for one hour, then deleted.) You will get one confirmation email first, and if you do not click it you are not subscribed.

How long. I keep your address while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe I stop emailing you straight away, and I keep a minimal record for up to 18 months to show I honoured your choice and to avoid re-adding you by mistake, then it is deleted. If your address hard-bounces or you mark a message as spam, it is suppressed so I do not keep emailing a dead or unwilling inbox.

Your rights. Unsubscribing stops the emails: click the link in any email and it takes effect immediately. Separately, you can ask for a copy of what is held about you, correct it, or have it fully erased from the database. Email me to do that. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data you can complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).

The small print. No cookies or tracking are set by the signup form. These updates are written for adults. That is the whole deal.
