AI Club - The Last Mile of AI

Past · 5 June 2026 · INSEAD, Fontainebleau · Moderator

What happened

A four-speaker showcase on the last mile of AI - the gap between a working demo and a deployed system. Curated by Justin Foo. Speakers drew on urban planning in Singapore, voice-AI compliance, tuberculosis case-finding in India, and AI strategy in German automotive manufacturing.

The theme

Every speaker hit the same diagnosis from a different sector: the model is rarely the bottleneck. What blocks AI at scale is a person with veto power - the plant manager, the sceptical senior leader, the regulator. Project economics are set by how that veto gets handled, not by the accuracy of the underlying model.

The takeaway

Model is commodity; wrapper is the business. Regulated, fragmented, low-trust markets are where AI moats form fastest - not in the consumer apps that dominate the discourse.
